For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver. ~Martin Luther
Artist Dhananjoy Mukherjee is perhaps of the same opinion. His vision in the green god series reflects a tonal spectrum of leaves of various trees – their ages, their seasonal variations, their moods during the hours of the day.
The artist seems to find shapes of gods in residing in the pattern of the leaves. The trees which protect us from the wrath of the sun, the turbulent flood and nurtures us with her fruits shall be worshipped as gods.
Impression of the cave paintings of Ajanta in the figures’ eyes, shadow of Ramananda Bandopadhyay and kalighat Potochitro also peeps through his canvass.
The domian of cool colours on the canvas, appeases the viewer’s eyes,It spiritualy resonates also found in the works,as if the god is the epitome of patience and peace, like the tres all around us,who envelopes us with food and shelter, inspite of our tortures.
