Two artists, Shripad Gurav and Nandini Raikar amongst many others, won accolades in the category of painting amongst 6000 entries, conducted by the Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation this year.
Shripad Gurav is shaken by the behaviour and habits of the people of Goa. Their way of dressing arouses him. His art is also influenced by the genesis of Portuguese families.
Shripad Gurav
Awarded artwork : “Coalesce”, 48in x 96in(122 x 242cm), Acrylic on canvas, 2017. The artwork was also a part of the Serendipity Arts Festival 2017.
Nandini Raikar had a passion for art, - paintings, dance, drama, since being a child. Using her creativity she used to send hand painted greeting cards to her relatives and friends on various occasions. This affection for art won her many awards in school and college. She wasn’t aware of the Fine art degree course at her time and pursued Commerce, instead. But, this didn’t deter her from her fervour towards painting. She won a few more awards later and then joined Senior artists of Goa, Wilson D’Souza and Sadguru Chedvankar to carve her skills. This education and guidance was a turning point in the artist’s life which not only helped her improve her competence in the field but also assisted her in developing a sense of understanding art.
Her inspiration is nature, which according to her is an art of God. She connects herself and her art with nature to convey messages about relationships and life.
