His works are being displayed in Kolkata after two decades or so, and this is a rare opportunity for the art-collectors and art-lovers to be in-front of these mesmerizing drawings, done in early sixties, in pen and ink on paper. Drawings are from the celebrated phase of his Varanasi creations, and so far have been in his collection only. The show is curated by poet and art-critic Prayag Shukla, a close associate of Ramkumar for five decades, who has written on Ramkumar in Hindi and English extensively.

Ramkumar, so is known internationally for his wonderful, engaging and enchanting landscapes in luminous hues, and his paintings and drawings are in the collection of various museums and are with discerning art-collectors in India and abroad. He is a fellow of Lalit Kala Akademi, has been honoured with Padmabhushan and  awarded Kalidas Samman, is  regarded highly by the critics and the art audiences at large. Ramkumar is from the generation of Husain, Raza, Gaitonde, Tyeb Mehta, and has been an intimate friend of all these artists. Drawings presented in the show are sensitive charting of momentous happenings, in fine lines, and speak volumes for Ramkumar’s delicate rendering quality. These drawings take us into a memorable aesthetic journey through ‘wondrous paths, which can be seen, treaded and found only by the caliber of an artist like Ramkumar, to engage our mind, as well our hearts.

Along with the show we have also planned an important interactive session on the drawings and other works of Ramkumar on the opening day itself, in which curator of the show Prayag Shukla, and well-known writer and art critic Gagan Gill will participate. Incidentally Gagan Gill, is the wife of Ramkumar’s younger brother, Nirmal Verma, an internationally reputed writer and will represent Ramkumar in the show. She is also the editor of 'Ramkumar A Journey Within' - a comprehensive book on the artist's oeuvre, published in 1996, by Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi. She, and Prayag Shukla will be in Kolkata from 31st July to 3rd August, 2014 and will be happy to meet the art-lovers and media-persons to talk about Ramkumar’s work and other related issues.
