The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council that met in Srinagar has declared tax slabs and cesses for more than 1,000 items, and among them is art — a category that till now was exempted from VAT in some states, including West Bengal. In Rajasthan, the tax was much lower. The tax reform has listed it under the tax bracket of 12 per cent, including, among others, “paintings, drawings and pastels”, “original engravings, prints and lithographs”, “original sculptures and statuary in any material”…

Aakriti Art Gallery is seeking to recruit 2 Gallery Interns to join the team at an exciting time before a busy forthcoming exhibition and art fair period.

 

Location: Kolkata

 

Key Responsibilities will include:

  1. Responsible for the day-to-day running of the gallery, interacting with clients and facilitating all phases of the exhibition planning process. 
  2. Meet clients and receipt items for the relevant sale. Manage the gallery with assistance.  Monitor incoming and outgoing items.  Ensure that the gallery area is presentable at all times.
  3.  Deal with email enquiries.  Assist with photography and take additional photographs of items for clients and specialists.  Liaise with vendors and specialists to confirm sale estimates and reserves.
  4. Assist in the production of sale catalogues.  Upload relevant text and images to the various online sites.
  5.  Organise marketing and advertising in print and electronic media. Monitor web based advertising. Compose mass emails to clients in the run up to the auction. Understand and engage with social media in various forms.
  6. Manage the consignment of artworks and prepare the saleroom for exhibitions.  Assist specialists with all pre-exhibition enquiries.
  7.  Ensure that all gallery website content are monitored and kept up to date.  Assist with the break-down of the exhibition and the preparation for the sale day.
  8. Assist with invoicing and payment in the days following the sale. Assist with shipping and arrange postage and packaging for lower value items.
  9. The candidates are also expected to travel when and where required with gallery office work, shows or events  
  10. Assisting sales team and contributing to client database.

 

 

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Art background along with co-ordination, logistical organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and delegation skills are essential.
  • Experience and knowledge of operating a wide variety of tools and machinery.
  • Computer literate all Microsoft office packages ideally, Photoshop.
  • Light art handling skills are a plus.
  • Proficient in languages, poses basic writing skills, solid interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills,
  • Should be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self – motivated, responsible and can work within a team structure.

Art Day @ The Royal Calcutta Turf Club

In support of Naktala Shilpi Astha

9th of December ,2017   12pm onwards

When Art blends with Horse racing then you get the blending of Aakriti Art Gallery and the Royal Calcutta Turf Club coming together to jointly host a day dedicated to Art alongside the thundering of hooves. The  activities and programs are Seven horse races which would also include two major races for the day being the second of the five Classics The Aakriti Art Gallery Calcutta  2000 Guineas for 3 year old colts and geldings to be run over a distance of 1600 metres. The second major being The Chisel Crafts Juvenile Stakes which is exclusively for 2 year olds and run over a distance of 1200 metres. Each of the seven races for that day are Trophy events and the winning owner of each race will take home a fabulous Bronze sculpture done by leading sculptor and that would be presented by eminent art collectors.

 On the art front we would see two installation works done on the turf ground for all to see and admire its beauty and wonder how it was all put together. There is also an Art Camp which would be on live where eight Gen Next artists are producing their magic on canvas and this gives the art viewers the opportunity to interact with the artists and try and perceive what they have interpreted in their respective works. The grounds of RCTC will play host to an exhibition of artworks by the leading art luminaries  namely Aditya Basak,Akhilesh,Arindam Chatterjee, Atin Basak, Chandra Bhattacharya, Chhatrapati Dutta, Manoj Dutta, Partha Bhattacharjee,Partha Pratim Deb, Pradip Maitra, Pradip Rakshit, Pradosh Pal, Samindranath Majumdar, Samir Aich, Sanatan Dinda,Sekhar Roy, Shipra Bhattacharya,Subrata Gangopadhyay,Sudip Roy ,Sunil De,Tapas Konar and Tarun De.. Bronze sculpture would also hold a pride of place in the exhibition by eminent sculptors namely Akhil Chandra Das,Bhabatosh Sutar,Bimal Kundu, Sunil Kumar Das, Tapas Biswas and Debanjan  Roy. This would be a feast of artworks hanging one beside each other and amongst the sculptures around for not only the art connoisseurs but for all to appreciate and buy as well.  The food courts around the art camp and exhibition areas would cater to all taste buds and will ensure that each one is fulfilled and satisfied and no hungry stomach is turned away.

To culminate the Art Day at 5pm will be what everyone has been eagerly waiting for the Art Auction which would be conducted by none other than Cyrus Madan. He will ensure that each lot that comes up for bid finds a new home and that to at the best possible price. The sale proceeds of the auction is being equally shared by the Royal Calcutta Turf Club and Naktala Shilpi Astha which is an artist benevolent fund formed by the artist community for the welfare of the artist community in times of need. The hammer would come down fabulous artworks by  Aditya Basak ,Ajay De ,Akhilesh,Asim Basu,Bijan Choudhury,  Bimal Kundu,Bipin Goswami,Chandra Bhattacharjee ,Chhatrapati Dutta,Ganesh Haloi, Himmat Shah Jayasri Chakrabort            ,JayashreeBurman,JogenChowdhury,K.S. Radhakrishnan,Kartick Chandra Pyne,Laluprasad Shaw ,            Madhvi Parekh,Manu Parekh ,Paresh Maity,Partha Pratim Deb,Prabhakar Kolte, Rabin Mondal, Rameshwar Broota,Ramkumar Samindranath Majumder  ,Samir Aich,Samir Mandal,Samir Mondal,Satish Gujral ,  Seema KohliSekhar Roy        ,Shankar Ghosh,Subrata Gangopadhyay,  Suvaprasanna Bhattacharya,Sudip Roy,Tapas Biswas ,Tapas Konar.           

 

The artworks that would come under the hammer would on display on the ground floor of the Royal Calcutta Turf Club, Race Course , Club House building on the day from 11am  for prospective buyers to come register and see the works that would be on auction . You can be rest assured that it is a day not to be missed and the coming together of art and racing in the City Of Joy will surely be an event to be remembered.
