Manifestations of the Mystique at Kolkata – 700 017

May 6, 2013 to May 31, 2013
The present show revisits a historical moment in art history with the works of four great acclaimed Masters of Indian art: Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, Gopal Ghosh, and Gobardhan Ash and also makes an attempt to question a number of just stated such ‘little tested assumptions’ at a time when more mass culture has spawned its spurious harmonies. As debased modernism retreats more and more into deviance and dissonance, Aakriti Art Gallery feels the need to raise the most searching questions in…See More

Aakriti Art Gallery cordially invites you  on the celebration of  105th Birth Anniversary of Shri Gobardhan Ash(1907-1996), who had always been a pilgrim of intensity and an itinerant traveler. In the course of a career spanning nearly seven decades he dedicated himself to a quest for an imagery that can carry the freight of his early memories, realism, of living in a country, a politico-social conditioning (the famine period of the40s in Bengal), a politics of identity and language and above…See More

Eyes on Life - Drawings of Satish Gujral at Aakriti Art Gallery ,Picasso Bithi,Orbit Enclave first floor

December 9, 2011 at 12pm to December 31, 2011 at 7pm
The earlier drawings of Satish Gujral struck a chord with above all the people who, like Gujral himself, had passed through one of the most agonizing times of modern Indian history – the Partition and its aftermath. Those drawings, with a strong expressionist verve and a deep humanistic concern brought pain and despair back to our consciousness. The present set of drawings however, done over a period between 2005 and 2011, unfold an entirely different approach. These delightful drawings…See More

See Exhibition Detail onlineRajesh Deb’s spirited and agile interlocution of a lost world of nineteenth century Calcutta is ageless, tells us engraved stories of a cultural space as we read them again and again: bristling with drama, thick with dialogue, vividly rendered and studded with astringent apercus and submerges them to the present tropes of…See More
