Notice Board - Internship Call
Aakriti Art Gallery is seeking to recruit 2 Gallery Interns to join the team at an exciting time before a busy forthcoming exhibition and art fair period.
Location: Kolkata
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for the day-to-day running of the gallery, interacting with clients and facilitating all phases of the exhibition planning process.
- Meet clients and receipt items for the relevant sale. Manage the gallery with assistance. Monitor incoming and outgoing items. Ensure that the gallery area is presentable at all times.
- Deal with email enquiries. Assist with photography and take additional photographs of items for clients and specialists. Liaise with vendors and specialists to confirm sale estimates and reserves.
- Assist in the production of sale catalogues. Upload relevant text and images to the various online sites.
- Organise marketing and advertising in print and electronic media. Monitor web based advertising. Compose mass emails to clients in the run up to the auction. Understand and engage with social media in various forms.
- Manage the consignment of artworks and prepare the saleroom for exhibitions. Assist specialists with all pre-exhibition enquiries.
- Ensure that all gallery website content are monitored and kept up to date. Assist with the break-down of the exhibition and the preparation for the sale day.
- Assist with invoicing and payment in the days following the sale. Assist with shipping and arrange postage and packaging for lower value items.
- The candidates are also expected to travel when and where required with gallery office work, shows or events
- Assisting sales team and contributing to client database.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Art background along with co-ordination, logistical organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and delegation skills are essential.
- Experience and knowledge of operating a wide variety of tools and machinery.
- Computer literate all Microsoft office packages ideally, Photoshop.
- Light art handling skills are a plus.
- Proficient in languages, poses basic writing skills, solid interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills,
- Should be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Self – motivated, responsible and can work within a team structure.

- I am an artist based in Pune.
You can say I am a late bloomer in the Art’s field. When I was almost 30, 2 things happened in my life. First, I did not have to worry about my bread and butter, which, unfortunately, occupies almost everybody’s mind and time and secondly, I was fortunate enough to get into the company of creative minds of artists, architects which consequently led me to get interested in arts and ultimately I began studying, especially, 20th Century Western art. Since then my life, mostly, is about art.
Under mentorship, I began painting oils on canvas in 1999 and had a group exhibition in Pune in the same year followed by a second exhibition in Sri Lanka in 2000, joint exhibitions in Thailand in 2001 and 2002.
For me, art is a process, its like living life. I start somewhere, on the way I get ideas which I want to develop and see what happens, and those ideas, in turn, bring in more ideas and I am sucked into it, full swing. And it depends in how far, intuitively, my whole physical being and my mental state of mind of the moment gets fully involved, that will make, if the work in progress becomes a satisfactory finished art piece or something which belongs to the thrash bin.
From 2007 until mid 2008 I was creating colorful 3D objects and linear compositions, digitally. In principle, I liked the work very much, except that I felt it missed a direct physical touch and feel, so I experimented to bring something similar to what I was doing on the computer on to large canvases. Now I think that my abstracts have the expressions and the impact which I could not accomplish digitally.
My canvases reflect the illusion of freedom. It reflects The Universe, a certain order in the chaotic mess. It may appear random but its not random at all, it happened because it had to happen, exactly like life, because of all the circumstances which led towards making it happen.
I had a solo exhibition of my acrylic canvases and digital C prints at Vaishwik art environment, Pune, in Jan 2009.
Participated in a month long group exhibition organized by Sree arts, Gurgoan in June 2009.
