Amitava Dhar Graduated from Government College of Arts & Crafts, Kolkata, after which he did teacher's course from the same college. Amitava had solo, duet and three person's show in major cities in India from 1984-2001. He has participated in Group Shows and India Annual Shows in metros of India and Tokyo. Besides, he has exhibited his works in Calcutta Metropolitan Festivals of Arts 1995, Bhopal Bienale 1996, Lalit Kala Academy National Exposition, New Delhi 1998, Millennium Festival of Art, Calcutta 2000, International Triennale, New Delhi 2001. In 2006 he had shown in several places like The Gallery in Cork Station, London, Tamarind Art Gallery, New York, Smakal Art Gallery and Gallery Nakshatra & so many shows with Aakriti Art Gallery in Kolkata.
Amitava's paintings are a narration of formal multiplicity constituting images that have been broken and reassembled according to visual dialectics. The colours complement or contrast to compel viewers to see things through the inner eye.
