Emami Chisel Art and Aakriti Art Gallery present the simultaneous launch of four magazines from across different cities in India and beyond (Bangladesh)-a unique event in that, something of this stature and character has never been attempted in India before. This, however, is not a matter of pulling off a publicity one-off; it is, instead, geared towards a forging of intra and international cultural solidarities, promoting the cultivation of healthy knowledge-building and its sharing, and realizing the maxim of art beyond barriers.
ART ETC 3 (Kolkata), DEPART (Dhaka, Bangladesh), Gallerie (Mumbai) and Art Journal (Mumbai) will be released on the 17th of February, 2010, at 4: 45 p.m. at the Sculpture Gallery of Aakriti. ART ETC will be released by Dr. Reimar Volker, Director, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata. DEPART will be released by eminent artist Shree Ganesh Haloi. Gallerie will be released by Shree Jogen Chowdhury, eminent artist .Art Journal will be released by Shree Lalu Prasad Shaw.
The launch will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘Sources of Departure, sites of no-return’, (5-6:30 P.M). On the panel will be Dr. Paula Banerjee, Honorary Senior Researcher, Mahanirban Calcutta Research Group; Bina Sarkar Ellias, Editor, Gallerie; Ebadur Rahman, Executive Editor, DEPART with Sharmishtha Ray, artist, art-historian and curator, moderating the discussion.
The event will also host the revamped launch of Art News and Views by Shree Chhatrapati Dutta, followed by the opening of a solo exhibition of paintings by Ashoke Mullick, to be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Acting Director of the Italian Consulate, H.E. Dr. Silvio Pentrella.
Art Varta and Art and Deal will also be present on the occasion.
A short film, ‘Waltz with Bashir’ (90 minutes), directed by Ari Folman, will be screened the following day (18th February 2010), 5 P.M. onwards at Aakriti Gallery.
