Aditya Basak was born in 1953 in Kolkata . He graduated from Govt. College of Art & Craft in 1977 . Aditya outwardly a friendly person but at heart an introvert , an eccentric painter who is always ready to divide from the general trend . He starts with a theme , goes to extreme limits to explore its possibilities . When he senses a dead end has been reached , he gradually moves on to new fields where he can put out feelers , inquire into things and experiment again , without being exhausted by repetition . This overt attraction to change continually , lands him into trouble often .
His works tries to delve into the psychic depths of subconscious. His works culminates the harsh realities of life with the dark murky depths of the human mind. His works have a disturbing and haunting quality to itself. Basak’s figurations resort to illusory imagery playing on light and shade. The colours are lush and the muted tones add to the powerful imagery. One of his favorite artistic tools is the incorporation of onlookers whose gaze he follows into the beyond. Objects that are aids to vision, such as the telescope, also find a place in his art, conveying the need for a medium of viewing.
